Almost sounds like it is not adjusted right. Turn the screw in to make it come in faster.

Is your timing jumping around? Use a non dial back timing light to check it.

Believe it or not easy off oven cleaner works on some undercoating.

I have refurbished Mopar only distributors returned to the factory curve taken apart, cleaned/lubed and ran on a Sun distributor machine and documented. Have hundreds ofr cores so just ask if you dont see the one you need. I have to ask for a core on the dual points getting seriously expensive...
