Found this early picture of Charlotte Rampling, the mystery girl who was cut out of the US version of Vanishing Point. Apparently she was quite active as an actress in Europe.

I haven't seen the movie in 30 years, but I think she was bedded by Kowalski.

She played a hitchhiker that Kowalski comes across and picks her up. They talk, smoke a little pot, stop and spend the night together. She represents Kowalski's eventual death, asking him not to go to California.
Rampling’s character was a metaphorical vision of the Angel of Death. This was cut from the US version but stayed on the British release of the movie.

Interesting. I saw Vanishing Point for $15 new on a local sales website so I bought it.
I also have seen the movie but years ago and want to see it again.
I hope when it arrives it is the uncut version.

I have now seen the clip!
The uncut version makes the movie deep!
It elevates it to the level of mythical! Dare I say.

On a side note, my grandma once said to me,
"the angel of death is so beautiful in appearance that you don't mind leaving with here! "
I don't know if she was being sarcastic or funny but certainly appropriate in Rampling's case.

Too bad, I say "enjoy what mother nature has given you, before father time takes it away"
but if you enjoying it too much though; yeah, it's costly!

I think it's also true that age has little to do with an attractive lady, it's in the way a beautiful woman carries herself....
For instance even at this age, I wouldn't kick Sophia Loren out of the bed for eating crackers!

The video I have has the American version on one side, the British on the other. I think she was better than the "Gentlemen" in the American version!

It is a sobering thought though;

It made sense that the Angel of Death came to K at this time and was waiting for him for a long time with patience. K chose any number of dangerous occupations during his life (Vietnam Vet w. Medal of Honor, cop, race car driver, demo derby driver, racing the Jag in the desert, aiming the Challenger at the cop car, then heading out into the desert, and of course the current dangerous high speed game with the state police)
The "Angel" knew it was time to collect K. He had been playing w death his whole life. The Angel finally brought some peace to K's soul and it was time for him to see Vera again in the afterlife.

The missing scene really was critical to the story plot!
