Check the big red wire coming up the steering coloumn. There is a connection of two sections of wire there. Unplug it and see if it's burned or shorting. It's a common problem on these cars.
If you're not in a rush I will have a rough set of TTi's 1 5/8 step to 1 3/4 later this year. I have to get the suspension sorted and pull off the old ones and attach the new ones. Probably 40 % of new ones cost. I'm sure they can be powdercoated or something else to make them appear better.
The bracket is for a Pioneer system I think. The KP500 and KP700 units from them had this so it could be easily removed. They were a high ticket item and theft was pretty common on them.
I figured if they were used on cars from the factory there was a reason. Those Ramchargers probably had something to do with them being on production cars. I think they help the torque on the motor, but I do like mine.
If you check the junkyards a lot of the C body cars had cruise on them. I think the bracket holding the accelerator to carb is different but you may find one in one of those old C's. Brake light switch for cruise was different if I recall correctly too. I've seen upper and lower cables on eBay...
I put tape around the edges when I pull hinges and things off. It's a hack but makes everything lining up after you take it off easier. You can also drill a small hole in each hinge and use the drill bit to get it close when you reinstall everything.
