Did you get the raw steel or ceramic coated? I’m guessing the raw steel looks like **** after a little while. Does that ceramic rattle can high heat paint hold up?
The 318 was tore down and cleaned up, everything looked good. New cam bearings and summit 6901 cam and high volume oil pump and new pickup. Cleaned the stock heads up and lapped the valves. Got a performer intake and might put the holley 750 back on or go edlebrock 600. Gunna throw headers on it...
Ok guys thanks for all the input. I waited too long to pull the trigger on the 340.
I pulled the 318 and found out that the pieces of metal where valve spring keepers and that the plastic cam timing gear was cracked and had a bunch of missing teeth. They were all Over the bottom of the pan and...
As far as maintenance oil changes every spring for the last 10 years is all that’s ever been done. It we’ve only put 7,000 miles on it in that time. It sits a ton. It runs good and doesn’t burn oil or smoke. No blow by at all. But there is lots of sludge as you can see.
Ya I also thought it was weird that he said it was out of a truck. I went ahead and passed on it anyhow. I think just don’t know how far I should go with this 318. It’s the original motor with 67,000 on it. I just keep seeing stuff I don’t like the further I dig into it. Ill try to upload a pic...
No transmission just the motor. The car is already 4 barrel, so will kick down linkage be the same? Sticking with the 904 trans for now so motor mount on the drivers side is it then?
Also is 1500 a good price for that motor? It is a ‘69 and it’s on a run stand so I can check compression oil...
Thanks for that info guys. Ya it’s looking like I have to replace basically all of the accessories on the car except the power steering but it’s the original and has a slight leak so I might as well. Also looks like the water pump is different too. At least that’s what I was reading, therefore...
Ok guys,
I’m going to clean up the engine bay on the wife’s 74 barracuda this winter, what is the best way to go about getting rid of the AC? It doesn’t ever work and we never use it up here in Alaska anyway. Do they make an ac bypass pulley to replace the ac compressor?
Or am I gunna have to...
Thanks for all the info guys I appreciate it.
I am fully aware of the 318’s limitations but I am going to go ahead and throw some bolt ons at it and see if it will pick up some pep. I might get be getting my hands on some spare 318 heads to try my hand at porting. Other than that I am trading...
I thought the heads were the big choke point with there small ports? Just figured if I was gunna do the intake manifold exhaust and carb might as well bolt on heads or port these to take advantage of the better flowing manifold. Unless it won’t make that big of difference???
Hey guys, this is my first post on the forum.
I'm looking for some advice on adding a little pep to my wife car. It's a 74 barracuda with a 318 and an automatic. She has had the car since she was 18 she bought it from her grandpa with 60,000 miles on the clock. Now it sits at 67,000 the motor...
