Thanks a lot for your answers ! That helps !
Pulled the trans off of the car. Easier than expected actually.
I'll be rebuilding it, ordered the Tom Hand's book.
Found great YT video's as well.
Now I'd like to understand why the clutch burned.
Could it be because my oil level was a...
Well I was very wrong.
If I have reverse, I have good oil pressure since reverse needs way... way more pressure than forward!
I tested oil pressure for no reasons... But at least now I know how to do it on an 727.
So next thing, I pulled the pan, and discovered my foward clutch laying in it...
Thanks terry,
I have been driving the car for a few hundred miles with the oil in, and it worked perfectly. Looks, Smells and tastes like ATF to me 🙂
I'm thinking loss of oil pressure due to clogged valve body/filter/pickup tube or a lip seal failed on the pressure plate for the forward gears...
Hi guys,
On my 70's Challenger, made a little acceleration, all was fine. Next acceleration litteraly 10 seconds later, and all forward gears started slipping bad !
I struggled to get back home.
Reverse is still tight.
Now takes a while to get into drive. when it does, it's lazy, super...
Now she's really how I like it.
Was about to order dog dishes, but I don't know. I think I like it like that, just simple. Has a bit of race car feeling to it.
For the record, I saw on some other forum that "2005-2008 Dodge Ram 5.7 Manual trans" starters would work on our RB engines. Well...
Thanks guys. I appreciate!
Really enjoy working on this car. I'm doing it lightheartedly - which is kind of rare for the perfectionnist I am. But this car unlocked this in me. I'm OK with her stains, scratches and cracks. Affraid to say I even like them... It gives the car some personality.
I...
The status of the car now :
The good / done.
Aesthtically she's good to me.
Front suspensions is 100% refurbished.
Front steering has 100% new ball joints. Steering gearbox still leaks a bit, I'm thinking one of the main O-ring supplied in the rebuilt kits is a thouw or two too small...
Just skimmed through my posts.
My god the typo's, spelling mistakes and missing words !
Sorry guys (and girls) just rushing these posts on a late evening.
Fortunalty the guys that scanned my deck lid did a great work with the color shade. It matches very well.
That pretty much it for the visual side of the car so far.
I'm now waiting on my steel wheels that are currently beeing widenned (had those late 70's 15X5.5 - Front will be widened 1 inch...
Before painting the rear of the car, decied to re adjust the doors, the front fenders and the hood.
Paint cracked everywhere, but .... Yeah I'm sure you'll know what I'll say now : "I don't care. I'll touch these up and see what happens after a few winters."
The thing is just to not let things...
Thanks!
I just love the GM A bodies as much as I love the E-bodies from Mopar. Such a good chassis on these cars.
I bet you mean you had a 326 on that tempest. Just like I have in my LeMans.
I really dig this engine. By no mean is it a perfomance engine, but it's not the slowest either. I...
Now that the car is electrically safe, I moved on to the next big problem in the list : the power steering box leak.
An E-body with a 440 and headers, and a huge original starter did NOT make the job of pulling the box out of the car easy.
I had to Remove the engine support bolt on that side...
He'll regret parting out the car for the rest of his life.
My only advice would be: help him any way you can. You seem to care since you posted that here.
You could be the reason why he'll keep it and enjoy it.
Did not know you could order a fender tag ! Will dig into this, would be cool to retrieve that!
Thank you !
I restored a 1966 pontiac Lemans... But I custom made the roof (and more) of the car. It is very hard to explain the work involved in a few words so :
Check this link if you want to...
Hi Sir,
Thank you very much for your input. Took you some time, so I'll take some time to answer comprehensively as well.
What I did is pretty much follow the MAD solution.
With a few differences :
1. To avoid having to drill both 16 and 18 spade connector locations, I only drilled the...
Hi!
Unfortunatly, no fender tag on the car. But I have the build sheet. And exactly, it is a JH23L0B built in may 1970 at the Hamtrack, MI facility.
You'll excuse the fact I don't really want to put the full vin number on the web, but here's the most interesting part of the build sheet I...
Thank you guys!
Amongst the things I like to do when I get a "new to me" old car is checking the electrical system. I'm always worried something might get hot and burn the car to the ground. You just never know with a 50+ year old car...
Beeing just out of a Pontiac restoration (that has a very...
Hi Gals and Guys !
So... This is a 1970 Challenger I just bought. These were some of the pictures from the seller.
I bought this car without seeing it for real.
I just saw it on a Norwegian website (I'm in southern-french-speaking-part Belgium so about 1000 miles away from the car...
