Check your 40+ year old NOS bulbs.
They are really good for a nut and bolt OEM restoration, but newly manufactured bulbs have been improved over the years and have improved materials and bulb life.
The bulb socket that snaps into the taillight housings are the ground. You should add at least a couple of ground wires to the bulb sockets and just use a sheet metal screw into the body brackets somewhere.
