Thanks challenger6pak, that's what I kind of guessed. When I looked under the seat i found two grommet-plugs where I think the inside track-rail of the bucket seat would mount. The only other problem is that in The Tampa Bay area none of the salvage yards have any old mopar parts! So I might...
My 1970 Challenger has the rare bench-bucket front seat. The seat back left side bar support cracked and also the driver's side seat bottom springs have broken, so it needs welding and major repair (I guess that is what happens after 380,000 plus miles!). I need to find a different seat to put...
Thanks for the input Chryco Psycho, I will get another ballast resistor for a spare and ohm-out the existing one, it seems O.K.
Burdar seems to have nailed the diagnosis - BAD MP ECU Box! After putting an old ECU on yesterday, the car starts like a champ and shows no signs of stalling! The unit...
Thanks for the input Chryco Psycho, I might get a spare ballast resistor to have on hand and ohm-out the current one - it seems good.
Burdar seems to have nailed the diagnosis - BAD MP Orange Box! It was only 2 yrs. old and had no seepage of the insulating goo! I put that one on because the...
Well, last night I checked all electrical connections and all are tight. I also swapped in a diffedrent MP Orange ecm and made it to work without stalling. So maybe driving it throughout today will determine if it was the ecm?
Thanks for the suggestions!
Bruce
Hello DetMatt1 and Burdar,
Yes, one time it shut off and about 2 seconds later caught again and was running without me touching the key!
And it doesn't sputter or make any noise, it just cuts off and I'm coasting!
I am running the orange MP box, but I don't have any others except an old...
Thanks, Leo,
I did a quick visual check but I probably didn't touch everything to make sure they were tight. I will double check the connections tomorrow; got to work tonight.
Thanks again,
Bruce
Situation: This is a 1970 Challenger with a 318 engine - stock except for a Chrysler electronic ignition upgrade done about 20 yrs. ago. The problem first happened when trying to leave work one night - the car cranked but would not start; tried for about 5 minutes off & on. Then after waitng...
Thanks for the p/ns. Looks like I'm set to go as soon as I can move a car out of my garage so I have a place to work on the Challenger - too many projects!
Bruce
O.K., With all this info and links I think I can get the job done. I would prefer to stay with the original equipment Mopar axle bearings; are they still available at a Dodge Dealer? Does anyone out there have the p/n?
Thanks,
Bruce
Thanks Robert,
I will proceed with installing the 3.55. Should I go with the new style "green" rear axle bearings that don't require the end play adjustment as the original style does? I don't have a dial indicator to measure end play. Also, are the original type axle seals used with the...
Thanks Ramenth, the noise is sort of a dragging noise, at first I thought it might be the brakes, but the brakes are not dragging - they're in good shape. And the gearset that was in the water was the 2.76 open end, not the sure grip. I guess I will consider installing the 3.55 sure grip now...
Unfortunately my 1970 Challenger and I were victims of a flash flood here in Florida. Evidently water got in through the breather hole on top of the axle housing. I did not realize this until it started to make a noise, and then I pumped out and drained the gear oil and put in fresh gear oil...
