I have for sale a 1970 Dodge Challenger.
Originally a slant 6/3speed car. Original engine and transmission is missing. Originally a GOGREEN color but was repainted red at some point in it's life. Fender tag is still there but no build sheet.

Interior: Has two front bucket seats (dark green, need recovered) appears to have all panels in the box (minus door panels). Gauges are there as well as a box with what seems to be all the wiring harness. Missing the backseat for sure, maybe some other small parts missing.

Exterior:Front bumper and lower valance go with the car just not pictured. Engine bay seems to be solid with one small spot where the battery tray was. Missing center grill section, mirrors, and windshield

Rust: Typical ebody rust around front windshield, back glass, lower 1/4's, trunk pan, and a few small holes in the floor and on the rockers.
I do have a v8 k frame and 440/727 I will throw in with the car if the price is right.

*****Bill of sale is all I have as that is all that's required in Alabama.
$5,000 OBO More pictures available upon request. Located in Auburn, Alabama

Okay so I went to put the dash that was given with the car back into the car tonight and have it loosely bolted up. Turns out the vin on the dash does not match the door and fender tag meaning it is not the original dash. The vin on the dash is the one I would have to write the bill of sale for.
The vin goes as follows: JH23C0136004
Body Type: J = Challenger
Price Class: H = High
Body Type: 23 = 2 Door Hardtop
Engine: C = 225 145HP 1-1BBL 6 CYL
Year: 0 = 1970
Sequence Number: 136004 = 36004th Vehical Built

Still breaks down as a 1970 challenger with a 225 slant 6. I will knock off some of the price and am sorry for any trouble this may have cause but it is still all there. Price reduced to $4,500 OBO

I'm a little confused about the second D code on the fender tag. Are you sure that's a D21 after the bucket seats? D51 makes more sense, though you don't often see it on a fender tag.

i have been down this road before. police took the car and i lost a bit on it =/

the catch with this now, is that the car has to be chequed out w/ the state police to get the paperwork straight ( to make sure the car is not stolen ) ...

if not, it can make its life as a track car

If it is stolen, in the past, it doesn't matter. If it is stolen you could be given a hard time for selling stolen property. Have you run the cars VIN, that is on the core support, in an internet search?

Everything matches minus the vin on the dash. Until I can clear everything up the car is not for sale. Sorry for any inconvenience and thanks for the help!

Nothing came back on any search results for either vin except where it was listed by me. Which is good news. I have to get with the probate office of the county I live in Alabama to check it out and figure out what will happen. Thanks

Doesn't the data tags guy make dash VINs now? I know i saw one on the infamous 71 pilot 'Cuda convertible and it looked good. This is a cool car in that color. Check out datatags.com. That direction would be best as that is what the car actually is. Here in CT a simple bill of sale would get the car registered. Good luck.

I know for positive data tags won't touch it. Each state is different. I would guess that the state will check out the cars VIN and issue a state VIN tag. Then the car will be a legal car without any worries. I would deal with the car first before I got into the fact I had another VIN from another car. Deal with one thing at a time so the state does not get suspicious of you. Sometimes they don't understand what these old cars go through.

Spoke with local pd today. He ran both VINs throughout the south for me and both came back clean. I will go to the local probate office and apply for a lost title and get that first. According to what they told me it is not an issue of having false or fake vin plates being the rest of the vin is stamped on the car.

Also data tags said per alabama law they could make me the correct vin plate as long as I had the proper paper work which will not be a problem from what I was told today.
