Hey burnt... What combo are you running...I wAnna be able to cruise about 80 with no problem...but wanna be able to open it up when no cops are looking...in my opinion my tires look pretty tall..aestheticAlly speaking if I went much taller...I think it would look kinda funny...I also like the pull off the line...I had an old chevy that was a pig on the Line runnin 3.08's but it would accelerate hard all day at 80-90 mph...maybe I'm chasing the golden fleece..
Ya the only way to have both is to put in a 5 or 6 speed.
Well I got about the same height tire you do, may be just a little shorter but with 3.23 gears. She runs 60 MPH @ 3000 RPM and 80 @ 4000 RPM. Wish I had more gear when I am at the track and less on the free way. LOL
She is my street car so I am going to put some 26' tires on her and call it good. Should be around 70-75 @ 3000 RPM that way.
What I would like to do if I had the money would be to run what ever gear and tire size I would need to be going through the traps at the track at what ever RPM the motor likes once I rebuild it. Lets say around 6000-6500 RPM in 4th gear through the traps, then put in a 5 speed and have a 5th gear to get me home on the free way and be able to run 70 @ 2500-3000 RPM or so. You know "If" I had the money. LOL
To me it goes like this in no order.
1) gear it to be quick.
2) gear it to cruise down the free way at a low RPM.
3) Split one and two and have gears that will do ok at the track and on the freeway. IE 3.23 or 3.55 depending on you tire hieght.
4) Put in a a trans that has overdrive.
