Where is the best place to but a complete 489 sure grip?
Dr. Diff only sells the gears and I would like something I can just bolt up.
Also, how do you find out what yoke and spline is in car? It's a 70 challenger and 70 existing cone type rear in it now.

I have a complete 70 Challenger 489 diff, with 3.55 gears, big brake drums, and e-brake cables. I would like to sell located in Wisconsin.

I’m pretty sure Dr diff will build you a complete diff with your choice of gear and sure grip on your housing or a new housing. Not sure if he provides an oem housing. Best to call him or email.

The third-member housing assemblies are not being made, reproduction, as far as I know. While still pretty plentiful, they don't grow on trees. Most axle/machine shops, local and abroad, can correctly assemble it for you, if you get all the parts. Finding another third-member, then ordering the parts (example, from Dr. Diff), and then taking it to a local 4WD shop will be the least costing route to go. It will save you considerable on those shipping fees.

While some garage mechanics are idiots, when it comes to vintage muscle cars, it's not their fault, they lack exposure and experience with these vintages babies. But this third-member stuff, and the skill to assemble it right, is still alive and well on modern-day vehicles and especially with those 4x4 lift shops.

Dr Diff ,, Mancini Racing for complete center sections -- to determine what spline yoke you have if the pinion nut is 1-1/8 across you have the coarse 10 spline yoke ,,, if the pinion nut is 1-1/4 across you have the fine 29 spline yoke .. you would want the unit built with the correct yoke width to fit your driveshaft small yoke 7260 series is about 3-1/4 inches across ,, large yoke 7290 is about 3-5/8 inches across ,,,. since you have a sure grip center why not have it rebuilt with the gear ratio you want.

I bought a Dr. Diff complete third member that bolted right in without any problem earlier this year. Took about 2 weeks from time of order to when it arrived. Highly recommended.
