Any recommendations on paint (brand and color) to use on a 70 instrument panel? I think the same paint is used on the steering column. Instrument Specialities claims they have a special Suede PPG that they sell. Is this paint so "rare" or are there alternatives?

I redid a panel and was fairly easy. Used a paintable undercoat spray for texture and semi gloss engine paint . Durable and cheap. looks awesome.

Are you just painting instrument cluster background?

If going with black I recommend a 2 part plaint like Hot Rod Flatz 201 (http://www.tcpglobal.com/Automotive-Paint/Hot-Rod-Flatz/?gclid=CPm_zcOimscCFY9gfgod_SMMow)
it is not too glossy and is very durable. Forgiving to spray too. And it is pretty cheap when you think of all the other components you can paint with it, bumper brackets, seat tracks, axle housing, etc.

I resprayed my dash frame, ashtray , and glove box door with it, looks great.

Yes, trying to match stock "Suede Black" on the Dashpad frame, glovebox and ashtray door, steering column, etc. Thanks for the recommendations so far!

A good substitute for black with a suede finish is to use SEM trim black and then the last coat fog / mist onto the parts. This will give it a slightly rough texture just like the factory did it. Same results as what the original organisol came out like.
