Ok I have two questions!

1st) did a 1970 Cuda 440+6 come with a 727 TQ 3 speed??? :dontknow:

2nd) any reason I should not use a 727 TQ 3 speed with a 440+6 :icon_scratch:

Thank you for any info

#1 Yes

# 2 No But if you plan on leaning on it there are many new upgrades available now that were not available back then.

The 727 was available on any 340, 383, 440, or 426.

The 727 was about the strongest automatic gear box made.

Why the question ? The best thing to do would be to beef up the whole driveline. The saying that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link is so true. Torque convertor, bands, steels, planetary, valve body, sprag, kick down, seals, u-joints, driveshaft, differential, etc... It just keeps going.

The reason for the question is I am going to start tearing down my car. And I want to make sure that how I put it back together is how it could have come!! I have been looking online and all I ever see are 440+6 4 speed!!! I figured the 727 was standard just haven't found too much supporting it. Would it be a safe statement to say that all 440-6 came with a dana60 and not the 742 casting 8-3/4 that I have currently??

it depends on what the fender tag say,s , that came on the car , u could order just about anything u wanted to buy , if u want to keep it original , from the factory then stick to the fender tag , or build it any way u want @ enjoy it .

A 440 + 6 auto car came standard with an 8.75 323 sure grip rear. Dana was an option for the auto. Dana was standard or actually a required option if you ordered a 4 speed with the 440 + 6. I have seen many 440 + 6 auto cars with an 8.75 that were factory original cars.

My fender tag is for a 383 3 speed with a 8.75 rearend. but when I bought it had already been replaced with a 440+6 with a numbers matching to the car 727 3speed with the 8.75 and since I probably will never have it complete numbers matching I might as well run with the 440+6 and I just want to make sure that it would be factory correct and haven't seen a lot of 440+6 without a 4speed and without the Dana... So I was just not sure !!!
