Good afternoon, well got a head scratcher here. I have 73 Challenger its a 340 4 speed car. It had a 323 open rear end. I have a 742 323 sure grip. I ve had it for years just for this swap out. Yoke turned by hand both ways, so what could go wrong? Put new springs in car detailed out the housing and chunk. Well put the center section in yesterday. Changed out oil seals today and put driver side axle in. The sure grip only would turn one way. Drivers side seemed to have lots of play. Was expecting that for the passenger side. So i put in the passenger side and nothing would turn. Took out the drivers side axle and still passenger side was locked up. Any suggestions here would be appreciated

So with both axles in place the yolk will not turn , or with the axles in place the axles do not turn ?
the earlier sure grips had 2 button that go through the center pin to set the end play for the axle brgs , both of these buttons need to be in place , I use a bit of heavy grease to hold them in place during assy , possibly one or both fell out into the spider gears , you would have to remove the center housing again to check

Correct with both axles in , will not turn at all. Are you able to install buttons without taking apart the unit ?

Changed out oil seals today....................and put driver side axle in.

Did you seat them all the way into the bore seal stop?
Did you pack your tapered bearing with grease?

Update , yes i greased everything, buttons are both there. The passenger side axle wasnt turning because whoever had car before had adjuster all the way out so bearing was frozen. I loosened the adjuster . Put center section on bench
put both axles in, they will only turn one way only on either side. When no axles are in center section i can turn yoke either way Im getting closer, thanks for any input
