I was told it is a 1970 489 3.91 OEM - never taken apart
So here is the numbers on the case - 2882 489 - assume that means 489 case
Here is the numbers on the ring gear ?070225 391-1 MS.29 2 6.702 - assume 3.91 gear,built june 1970 ?
Case - big 9 on drivers side
After cleaning it
orange paint on the bottow
yellow paint near the pinion snubber
Thanks for the help !

moparleo; great chart

That chart is a big help in identifying the 8 3/4 ring and pinions.
I had checked mine against the chart after a good cleanup.
I have two white stripes and one orange, verifying my 3:55 sure grip in a 489 case. I was lucky to still have the 3:55 tag on one of my bolts.
Mine also has a yellow stencil date of 10/22 which corresponds with my SPD of October 6th.

One thing I would like to be able to read; the casting date above the 489 case number is hard to decipher?

I would think the unit's casting date should be sometime prior to October 1969?
