I bought a E-Body Big Block Trans conversion from one of the well known companies and with the trans installed, It won't go into 2nd. It just grinds going into second. It acts like the 2nd Synchro isn't working at all. Yes, I done ever adjustment, inspected everything three time over, even pulled the side cover and can't find a thing wrong with it. So instead of sending the trans back east, I want to look locally, for a well respected 833 specialist. Can anyone help?

I had a Chevy S 10 years ago with a manual transmission, eventually I changed the gear oil and used a slightly heavier oil because there were so many miles on it.. sure enough this caused the gears to grind... long story to say double check your fill. Some manual transmissions use ATF now....weird.

Yeah, I started out with a thin oil (Royal Purple), which has the viscosity of ATF. Thanks!

I had the same problem in my 72 340 cuda. Turned out the trans was messed up. When I launched the reverse arm would move back and not allow it to go into second. I put a spring to hold it forward and the problem went away. Eventually had the trans gone through and he replaced the part. The guy that fixed it said he had never seen the problem before, and he's done many.

Slick, I figured out what the issue was. The main retaining clip that holds the main shaft (on the bearing) to the out put housing was not locked in. The main shaft had too much back and fourth play the second gear to work. With the clip installed properly, everything now works perfectly. Thanks for everyone's help.
