I have a 1970 AAR and i'm a little confused about the engine color - most so called experts say that the 340 engine for 1970 and 1971 was NOT painted hemi orange but was just painted Chrysler orange. The problem i'm having is no one seems to sell that for just the 340 as everyone has hemi orange for sale, so does anyone know where you can buy the correct orange color for the 340 - or can you? Thank you much

Every TA block I've seen were painted orange. The AAR Cudas and T/A Challengers used a special TA block part number 3577130-TA-340. Webbing around the crankshaft is thicker than the other 340 blocks. It wasn't until late 71 that the 340 blocks were painted blue.

Check out this guide on painting a T/A 340 engine.
And this one on Motor Trend, too.
Uncle Tony's Garage has tips on painting engines as well with how to get all of the oil out of cast iron pores.

All T/A engines are Street Hemi Orange. The early Hemi race engines had a lighter color "Hemi Orange" called Race Hemi Orange.
The Hemi Orange spray paints below are all Street Hemi Orange.

Mopar Performance Street Hemi Orange P4349216
The Mopar Performance paint is very thin, almost translucent and will take a lot of coats to build up.

Dupli-Color Chrysler Hemi Orange Spray Paint - DE1652.
Duplicolor is a stocked item at O'Reilly's Auto Parts and is a ceramic paint.

VHT Chrysler Hemi Orange Engine Paint SP120
VHT is also a ceramic paint and is a stocked item at AutoZone.
