1972 Barracuda with an 8 3/4 rear end with 489 casting running 3.23 gears 727 Torqueflight auto trans. what would be the best gear ratio for this set up without taking away from my cruising on the weekends? this is not a drag car mostly cruising and show. But I would like to see a little more power transfer to the rear the 3.23s are ok but is there something better like 3.55 or is this going to affect it going down the road at 65 to 70 mph?
Thank you

3.55, 3.73, 3.91, 4.10 are some ratios available.

Here's a calculator you plug the numbers in to give you an idea where the RPM goes ................

I had 3.7 and to be fair was probably a little low but my engine has a pretty big cam.
Give 3.55 a go it should be OK

I have 3:55 gears in my 340 A66 Challenger
Found them to be a good compromise with highway speed and RPM's.
I even had 2:55-60 - 15's on the back (taller then stock e-60's) and car pulled nice with a stock cam for the street.
