Bracket attached to Ash tray

What is the metal bracket that is attached to the back side of the ashtray assembly for? it looks like it could hold a relay or something of similar size.

You didn't say what year, but I'm pretty sure my 70 Cuda has the 4 way flasher mounted on the passenger side of the ashtray
the original flasher was a rectangular shape and was some type of tin or pot metal

Yes it is a 70 . i have to look and see where the flasher is located. thanks for your reply.
