Can I use DOT 5 fluid? Is DOT 3 or 4 better performing? Totally new system so will not be accidentally mixing fluids. Thanks

Here is the complete scoop on brake fluid. Remember that some fluids are designed for real race cars. Not street cars.

I flushed the system in my '67 Imperial and am now running dot 5 with no complaints. It won't mess up your pant and is said to also not take on moisture over time. I wish I would have converted my Challenger over after the new paint job in th engine room because the paint under the master would still look new...

I've used DOT 5 in all my old cars with excellent results. Like Matt said, won't take on moisture so it is great for cars that sit a lot...
