Can shifter rod be changed out of a slap stik assembly?

I was wondering if anyone knew for sure whether or not the external shifter could be removed and replaced with another assembly or if part of the "slap stik" mechanism is integral to the shifter rod.

I only ask as I want to replace the busted shifter assembly on my b-body with a slap stik setup but the handle is not long enough to be easily reached when driving and I would need to use the longer angled shifter rod that is in my stick setup.

Any input would be appreciated.
