I have a 72 challenger with a 77 360ci and 727 automatic, manual brakes, with power steering. I want to put headers on. would a set of shorty headers work without a lot of mounting problems?

If you use a good quality set of header's like TTI you should have no issues. Just be sure to read the Manufacture's notes
Just out of curiosity... why shorty headers and not long tube. again just curious, as long tubes will give you more power and torque, but of course take up more room

TTI,s are regarded as having the best fit. I had a nice set of Hookers on my 360 Cuda, but it required the drag link to be disconnected and run between the tubes. Your clearance issues will be with the steering box, starter, and possibly shifter linkage.. make sure you review whatever brand you are buying to ensure it clears these areas..

I would probably Port/Polish & keep the cast iron manifolds over the shortys.. just my opinion.

napaguy What are your plans for this car, and engine. Is it stock or rebuilt, and post some pictures if you can

I've seen Magnum truck exhaust manifolds on E bodies, so I don't see why the short headers designed as a direct fit for trucks wouldn't work just fine. I bought a set of stainless ones off ebay a few years ago, but haven't tried them yet since the cars I'm working on have big blocks.
