I have a 4 speed behind a small block motor and a while ago the clutch fork pivot broke inside the bellhousing.
Upon inspecting it you could see there was flexing it cracked and finally gave way.
Is this a common problem?
The standard part seems a little flimsy.

True I was lucky were it failed as it happened suddenly and the car was in gear so it took off.
With the big inspection cover I could get at the bolts and just had to slide the whole gearbox and bell housing back 1/2 an inch to get the clutch fork back in to the correct place.
