I am planning on swapping my auto for a 4 speed. can anyone tell me if I can use my auto console and put a 4 speed plate on it or do I need a 4 speed console. Are they different other than the plate? Thanks, Eric.

I think the bottoms are different, if I'm not mistaken there is a bigger relief for the hardware on the 4 spd. consoles. Try an Ebay search for both consoles.

I don't know if this will help you or not. I have seen people do this with A bodies. The stick comes up in a little different location so they make an adapter plate to extend the shifter to come out the different hole location. This may work with E bodies too.

Your console will work with the correct 4 speed top plate. For around 9 bucks there is a template made out of paper you can buy to tape onto the side piece of your bottom half console. You use a cut off wheel and trim along the diagrahm for the correct pattern. All this takes around 10-15 minutes to do when you have the console on the bench. Now brackets, pedals, pivot posts and other things like that will be the biggest part of your conversion. Expect it to take around 2 easy days to do the swap. Interior out is the best way since you have to cut the floor pan and install the hump. Also make sure that your automatic crankshaft is drilled deep enough to accept the nose of the tranny. Most hp cranks are deep enough auto or manual, but non hp engines are a hit and miss. I use the brass bushing for the input shaft in the crank, but there is a roller bearing you can use to.
