I had a member pm me with a question regaurding the difference between the early `70 Challenger non crumplezone hood and the rest of the Challenger hoods with the crumplezone. I only have a couple of early `70 non cz hoods here so I am posting a pic or two them, could somebody post up a pic of the underside of there hood with the cz so they can be compared by all?

Since there are no replies here yet I will say that there would be some linear indentations in the understructure aft of the rubber seal that would make the hood fold at that point in an accident rather then sending the rear of the hood through the windshield. Somebody should be along anytime now with some pics considering probably 90% of Challenger hoods have the crumplezones.

The crumple zones are on either side of the main beam twards the front of the hood...just forward of the scoops.

hay thanx guys!!now i see...whats really funny is i picking that hood up tomorrow from swept 57, how cool is that lol..now b4 u guys get ur bloomers in a bunch.yes i know my challenger is a early purple big block car...so the flat hood should stay...but i hate that hood lol, so it will be kept and painted at the same time as this new hood. besides i dont have orig 383,(but i think the one i have is real close to build date) but once again thanks to all Lee

You can look at your fender tag to see what the cars SPD was. That will give you a ballpark idea of when the car was built. There are more knowledgeable people then I, who know when the crumple zones started to appear. Do some research and you should be able to find out if your car should have them or not.

It looks like that hood is off of a 73. The safety hook is different then a 1970 and the color looks like A5...a 73 only color. I don't know what you'll have to do to get the 70 style safety hook to fit.

your hood is not original IMO , my car was built Sept 2 & is a 112xxx serial #
what swap are you trying to do , just install the Ralley hood ?
if so no problem , the 70 saftey latch is mounted back on the frame under the hood , the later years had the steel pull handle to clear the grille
