Differential options for '70 Challenger?

Me and dad recently bought a '70 Challenger. Just a 318/904. Unfortunately, it only has the 7.25 rear in it. Engine will be upgraded/replaced but it won't be a drag car or anything serious. What rear ends will work?

E body 8.75 rears are nowhere to be found here. A buddy has a '65 Dodge c-body rear for really cheap which fits my style...again (cheap). Would this be a good option?

The 489 & 742 casting numbers on the pumpkin are the strongest diffs.

Try craigslist in metro detroit area. There is a guy in Howell taht has a number of axles.

The rear is a '742 casting from the c body. Has anybody swapped a c body rear into an e??

Until recently I never used C body rear in a Challenger. Recently I have because it is longer than the Ebody unit and newer style offset wheels fit better. The perches (mounts) will need to be moved on the c rear housing to fit it onto the Challenger springs. Unless you are planning to run new style wheels, stick with an E or pre 72 B rear end. The B rear will give you more clearance for the older style wheels. The perches need to be moved on the B rear end housing. Since you keep using the word cheap, go with a 8.75 Ebody rear. I have 12 of them here. I am in Florida.

1965 C-body is close to exact same as E-body, difference is like 1/8" and brackets are same 46", just go for it!!

I may go for it. He said $50 for the '65 C body unit. I can't buy an E body rear for that anywhere that I know of. The C body unit is all there.

I do have the housing and axles to a '70 Charger. I don't know close the B body rear is to the E. No chunk though...

Difference between 68-70 B-body and E-body is 1 1/2" shorter and pearches are 44", can be used with a relocation kit from Cass doctordiff.
