Gentlemen,
Any one that has purchased or has a fiberglass hood know its weight? I am changing my steel Challenger hood out for a fiberglass unit.. weighed my steel one, without latch, hinges, NADA but the hood. 72.2 pounds. Hoping glass one might come in at 45 or less pounds.
Thanks...

Awesome. That is the firm I purchased my hood from at the Moultrie Georgia swap a few years back! Thanks a bunch!

The original intake and Thermo quad on the 440 weighed in at 72 lbs (cast iron). New 2 four barrel intake with 2 four barrel carbs weighs in at 32 pounds. Now with your info, looks like I have dropped 37 pounds more with the hood swap. Aluminum Heads, water pump, pump housing and pulleys are yet to be determined, weight wise, but I am guessing about a 15 to 20 pound weight reduction for the pulleys, water pmp housing and water pump. Hope to shed considerable weight for the cast to aluminum head swap too. Also replaced the fenders. Metal thickness on the newer fenders is I beleive about 1 gauge lighter. Will check that as I have older fenders and the newer ones. Car had a 340 in it originally. Changed original torsion bars for the lighter duty with the ones for the 440, and am changing out as much cast iron for aluminum as I can. Need to try and shed as much of that 200 plus pounds of 440, back to the weight of the 340 power plant.

Sounds like you're well on the way! I think the hood actually weighs about 23lbs. I did a lot of what you did (no fenders) as well as the Tremec 5 speed is a lot lighter than the 833 in my application. I'd like to see some pics when you get to that point.

I have a custom fiberglass shaker hood and scoop on my car. Was around 28 lbs. I took out weight everywhere I could (not seen). Hole sawed roof braces, A pillers, inner body panels, dash board etc. Still retains all interior, glass roll up windows and steel body panels and bumpers. With cage and chassis it still weighs 3708 with me in it so I just keep adding more power.

I just did the stuff on motor, hood and have a few sets of wheels/tires in alloy. I was thinking my cuda was about 3300 without me. You really went after it. Keep it going.

Fasjac, that body-colored AAR hood looks damned good. I think that's the first one I've seen.

Now you just need to fully commit and get the matching air-cleaner base! 😁
