Fried alternator

hey guys. So I noticed the 440 charging at 18v at idle and shut her off. Changed the voltage reg, same thing. Took the alt to get tested,failed. It's a two field 65amp. I'm debating whether or not to change it to an internally regulated unit, not sure what specific one, or 1 or 3 wire. Modern mini fuse wiring front to back in the car so I don't mind changing things. Any input on what a good unit would be for this? In the $50 range (same price range as a replacement)?
