Hello all,

after having bought a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda last year I should introduce myself.
I´m 51 years old now and am quite new to driving muscle cars, but had already some fullsize cars (78 Lincoln Continental Mark V, 76 Cadillac Sedan deVille and a 73 Imperial LeBaron).

As the Imperial wasn´t enough (and still needs some love) a friend told me about the Barracuda in very good shape, which was sold in the Netherlands.
This is one of the export-models, that had been shipped to Europe in parts, then and was finished and quality inspected at Automontage Schinznach (today "AMAG") in Switzerland.
Originally it had a 318ci, a new dual exhaust was fitted in 1987.
In 2000 or so, it was sold to the Netherlands and later got a 360ci Crate-engine, now everything is either original or restored.
So I had to be quick, bought it with the help of a friend and got it shipped to Austria.

The guys at the shop changed the blinkers to orange front and rear and checked other typical points that needed attention for the registration, as the Netherlandish authorities are much more easy-going and didn´t cever are for red turning lights.

As it will be inspected by the Austrian traffic authority soon to get a "historic registration" (and most of the time they are quite picky and in a bad mood...) I am hoping to drive it legally on the road soon.

Welcome! There may be some questions about your Barracuda's Dash VIN plate. I have never seen a partial Dash VIN plate with just the last 8 characters on it.
Is that a reproduction Dash VIN plate? There is a company making them in Europe.

It appears that the Export VIN plate has a typo in the 7th digit location. That should be a B, not an 8.
Your factory VIN is BH23H0B174926.

I expect a great discussion about your Barracuda and its unique H6E4 - RED Interior. A very nice Barracuda, for sure!

Yep, the red interior really got me, as i do not really care for black interiors - and there are plenty of them in muscle cars.
Mopar-muscles seem to have more colourful interiors than Ford or GM...

Thank you for the copies of the interior selector book!

Maybe the Swiss (or Belgian?) employees misread the "B" for an "8", when assembling this Barracuda in 1970 and producing the VIN-plate?
This combination of extras and color choices seem to have been specially for export, sometimes not available in the USA, I was told.
Who knows?

Best regards,
Joerg

As I already have a question about the seats:
Is there someone who knows about stock-looking seats that supply a little bit more lateral support?
Tried the search but didn´t get any matching results.
First driving in a roundabout was a little bit like "thank god for wearing seatbelts"... ;)

Welcome to the site from Michigan! Very nice looking Cuda with the white and red combination. Hope everything goes well with the inspection/registration.

Those VIN plates (with the 8 instead of the B) were normal cars assembled in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The bodyshells were produced in USA, shipped to europe where they were finally assambled.

Questions: So are the vin's stamped in the same location as a US made car? Did they come with build sheets?

Is it possible that the "8" in place of the B Hamtramck factory designation was used to indicate that the car was exported in pieces from the US and assembled in Europe?

I believe that the technical knowledge we now posses with regard to seating, thanks largely to nascar👍, is hard to retrofit in this circumstance. Unfortunately my 1970 also has seats that you sit ON, not in like the new cars. My recommendation is keep, your foot on the throttle and that produces a force to push you into the back of the seat!

Hang on and buckle your seatbelt, after all that’s at least half the fun.

Sweet ride you got.
