So I have a 73 Cuda 340 AC car with front disc and rear drum.

Everything is new on the brake side except the proportioning valve ( I am using the original cast iron type since I cannot find a new one)

After bleeding the brakes I have fluid at all wheels but the brakes are very spongy and do not stop well.

So looking for trouble shooting assistance I looked in the service manual and they describe bleeding brakes on this car in a certain way.

Chrysler states to crack a front bleeder first to produce a front failure condition, then to bleed the rear brakes. Followed by bleeding the front brakes. Then applying the brakes to center the brake warning switch.

Does anyone know what position the valve stem on the metering valve stem should be in - mine is in the out position - is this correct or should it be in.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Ralph

Well you obviously have air in the system
Are the front calipers mounted so the bleed screws are on the top of the caliper , if not it will never bleed fully .
Any sign of leaks ? Even a tiny one can draw in air so make sure all fittings are sealed .
The shuttle valve in the prop valve is only to ground the warning light so if it is offcenter the switch is grounded , this will not affect bleeding the system .
I bleed from the furthest cylinder to the closest , often just gravity bleeding works well as this will not create bubbles inside the master .

Will verify bleed screws on top but I believe so.
No leaks
Light on dash stays lit for trouble indication
But I will rebleed as before which I start from passenger rear then so to speak working my way forward.
Thanks for all your help
