Can anybody help with this: I want to decode an engine cast number, but can seem to find it enywhere, here is the number 248813-12

what size engine? were did you get the number? block,head? Need more info, are you looking for the year?

well; First of all thanx for the replys, I got the number of the block and its on both sides of the engine, and it is 2488130-12 and on the drivers side is got the year it was made 1-18-67 the problem I got, is that I forgot if it is a 383 or a 440 and if I decide to sell it people would want to know this things.

It's a 383 and the number is likely 2468130. Same casting from '59 to '71.

Thanx for reaffirming of it being a 383 but as for the numbers they are very clear on both sides

A pic will tell the whole story but the cast 6's look a lot like 8's.
