Can anyone help me decode my transmission? These are the numbers I found. I just removed it from my 70 challenger 426. I’m doing a 5 speed swap. What value does it have? Previous owner installed the T/C and rebuilt it.
Thanks

The value is in keeping it with the numbers matching car and engine (which very well might be the one you took it out of). Other than that, its just another 727.

Your 5 speed swap is fine, its your car. BUT, if that's the original transmission from your '70 Hemi Challenger, set it aside in storage and keep it with the car.

The part number tells a better story than the casting numbers. The part numbers on the railing, adjacent to the oil pan. Look for a flat machined area, 1/4 above the oil pan.

I’ll look for that part number. The car was originally a 340ci automatic so it’s not a numbers matching anything.

The previous owner installed a crate Hemi engine, the transmission and a 8 3/4 non sure grip with a 2.94 gear. Now it’s a 3.73 sure grip

All we can tell from the photos is that it's a 1970 transmission cast in late 1969. Need the number on the pan rail. Will look like the attached photo of a. 1960 413 transmission (RV).

IMG_5486 shows the partial VIN: 0B150353 or 0B160353. If the VIN on the car is JH23H0B150353 or JH23H0B160353, the transmission is original to the car.

Thanks for the additional info on the car. From your original post there was no way to tell what you had, except you said it was from your 70 Challenger 426. The ONE photo that showed a partial VIN also indicated it was a 1970 transmission, from what car, we didn't know.

That was the basis for my post just in case it actually WAS an original 70 Hemi Challenger, nothing more. As I said, its your car so do as you wish and enjoy it.
