On the front cover of the Muscle Car Color History Barracuda & Challenger book is a picture of a 1971 Barracuda Convertible. The color is several shades lighter than Sassy Grass Green. Do anybody know if this Barracuda is painted 1970 sublime green?

Who is the books author? All I find is a cover with a red 70 Cuda.

If this is the cover, I would say it is the sassy grass green. 129941514_1f4d7c2772.jpg

That is the cover, thank you Challenger6pak. The color above is several shades lighter than the paint swatch of Sassy Grass Green. Is it the lighting, the Cuda being out in the bright sunlight or are there several variations of the color by different paint mixes?

It's the printing process. Some films and printings will change the shade of the color or make it something all together different. That's one of the reasons a good paint jobber will tell you not to bring something printed to have them match the paint.

One of the best stories on this kind of thing is the Nash Bridge's Barracuda. Don Johnson wanted the car in the color on the cover of the book above. The film used for shooting television changed Sassy Grass Green to school bus yellow. It's the reason the car in the tv series was an off-shoot of orange. The orange showed it's proper hue on film.

It's also one of the reasons you hardly see write ups on on dark green cars in the magazines. The printing process, up until recently, turned dark green to black.

To me, that car is FJ5 sublime green, a color that was NOT available in 1971. But that car is clearly someone's custom build. You will note it is probably not even a 'Cuda. There are no fender gills and if it was sassy grass, it would have a color matched grill. IMHO.

That's what I thought Jeff, that it is painted 1970 Sublime Green. Thank you Jeff. Actually it is Lime Light for Plymouth & Sublime for Dodge.
