Hey guys, I've been into muscle cars for a few years now and have owned several, doing minor restorations, having fun and making some money along the way. This is my first MOPAR, I love IT!!!

I recently ascertained a 1970 Challenger R/T 440+6 dana 60 4 speed. Everything thing is original and has 40k miles. It has been sitting in a storage unit since December of 1979. I have rebuilt the carbs.

I am going to drop the tank, clean w/ DAWN soup. Clean and replace if it has a lot of rust. Blow out the fuel lines. Pull the plugs and put some Marvel Mystery Oil, change the oil, w/ zinc, pull distrib, prime the motor w/ oil pump. New points and condenser. Plugs wires...

What am I missing that I should do prior to starting up this beast. I don't want to take any chances of damaging my new baby.

Thank you in advance for any insight provided.

Welcome to the site fellow metro Detroiter! The car sounds like a great find and I think you've covered your bases pretty well as far as the pre start checklist. The only thing that I would add is to give the cooling system a once over and take some pics and post them up.

Welcome. Prime the oil pump before you start the car. It won't do well on Marvel alone.

Welcome to the site. Also have a newly charged battery and fire extinguisher handy. The fuel pump should probably be replaced as the diaphragm doesn't do well in storage. Inline fuel filter as well. I would also pull the valve covers just to look, especially if you are not the one who parked it. Could be a surprise story there.

Thanks for the pointers. Already removed valve covers. The rocker arms look great. What amazed me is that the fluids all look great. Oil is clean, trans looks perfect and antifreeze is neon green w/o a hint of oil. Havent drained anything yet. But i will before i turn it over.

PLEASE KEEP ADDING SUGGESTIONS!!!!

It was right under our noses...
Congrats, that's a nice find. Curious though, why the (Australia) on the decode? Is the top gator grain?, because it decodes as a green vinyl but not specifically a gator grain.

I called a friend who has a nearly identical one sitting[since about the same time]. He assured me, if it ever leaves their storage....I get the first call. I've been watching it sit idly, since I can remember. That's a great find, and will be fun. CONGRATS!!

The sticker i havent looked at. I got a few cars and its been sitting in my garage. I got it from Illinois.

Maybe the original owner is from Australia. Im unsure. But that decode was a mistype. I typed that in bc it looked like the gator green top. Ill do more research on it before i do anything w it. Im from Detroit area and we have Mopar national coming up July 19. Im gonna get her ready for that hopefully.

What's this you say about Mopar National coming up on July 19th? Is that something at Milan?
