Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum. I'm working with my adult son on the resto of his 73 Barracuda. We have installed a rebuilt 5.7 Hemi with dual quad natural aspiration. Well along with the build. THe latest issue is the following:

We installed a newly remanufactured steering box ( Cardone ) . Changed it out because of leakage. The old one functioned well with the PS pump that is stock to the 5.7. Bled the new box repeatedly and all seemed well. After warm up while driving the steering locks up at idle and frees up at much higher rpm. THe pump is new. Could it coincidentally have gone bad or is there an issue with the its match up to the new box. Son claims that a cooler might be needed. Any thoughts?

THanks,

John

So, are you saying that you replaced both the steering box and pump at the same time? Or the pump was new and you replaced just the box? Sounds like the steering box is bad.

I too have had issues with rebuilder steering boxes , I would talk to Firm Feel or Steer & Gear for an upgraded steering box or you could use the Borgeson conversion with the smaller & better ratio steering box

Spoke with rep at Steer & Gear. Described the situation and he felt the problem lies with the pump. In the process of replacing. Will update the results.
