Guys, I want to thank you for taking the time to post your ads here. It means a lot to site and the general membership.

I'm posting this thread, though, to remind guys that we have rules on the site for a reason.

I come here to enjoy time with my fellow E-body enthusiasts, to learn somethings I may not know (some of it very esoteric), other things I may, help when I can, a get a lesson in tech I may not have thought about. I want to thank you all for that.

The thing of it is, though, having to constantly delete email addresses and phone numbers is getting old. We are adults (or should be) and taking the time to familiarize yourself with the rules can go a long way in helping the general membership (and this mod) enjoy the site a bit more.

Some sites block profanity from being posted. Other sites have other things that are blocked from being posted. In a nutshell, it just won't work due to the programing the site is set up with. Can't Joey have something set up on this site for the phone numbers and emails to be blocked? It would give you a break.

I don't know. I'm sure if there was then it would have been installed already, across the board on all his sites.

As far profanity goes, generally I look at it as a PG13 site. Ya'll do such a good job at policing yourselves that it's one thing we as mods don't worry about. Even the Hot Babes thread is pretty PG13. There seems to be very little clash of egos, which helps a lot, too.

There's days, though, it gets a little wearisome to coming in and having to clean up ads. And then you have the rare oddity who wants to argue the rules because he (or she) thinks those same rules that (virtually) no one else has any problems following doesn't apply to him (or her). Those are the days that banning is always an option.

Stop and think about it. You have something to sell that could be worth this month's mortgage payment and you're willing to risk not being able to sell it because you don't take the time to read the rules at the top of every classified subforum or think those same rules don't apply to you because you're a lifetime member of another site (which, by the way, if it's one of Joey's all pretty much have the same rules... don't cop an attitude with me because the mods look the other way... I'm looking at you FABO). It just doesn't make sense to me.

I'm kool with the rules and abide by them on this site but can I ask why there's even an issue with contact info being posted? Does it somehow mess with the site itself when somebody puts a phone # or email address up in an ad. If it doesn't mess with the function of the site why police it??? I willingly put my phone # in Craigslist ads and have never had anything negative happen as a result.

Matt, contact info doesn't inhibit the operation of the site, but it does inhibit the site's abilities. Before the rules were in place, remember when we had a large number of craigslist style ads? Guys would sign up, place an ad with contact info, then completely disappear, expecting anyone interested to call or email. There's no engaging the rest of the site in ads like that and it left some of our long term membership a little frustrated. "Mr. OneandDone" would never come back to the site and answer any questions about the item which may be in the ad thread, no way to leave feedback about a good deal gone bad, or even a great deal made with a good guy, simply because the person who posted the ad could care less about actually being a member of the community.

There's also the financial well being of the site to consider. Joey doesn't charge for ad space from the membership. He charges for ad space from the vendors who sponsor the site. One of the ways to do that is to show the vendors how many hits the site gets a month. "Mr. Oneanddone" isn't conducive to adding to that total in the fact that he doesn't come back after he's posted his info.

One of the reasons pics are so important. Not only does it allow our membership to see the item in the ad and make the determination if it's something worth buying or pass on it, but those pics also get put in the search engines and may lead folks here who have never heard of FEBO. That's a win-win for everyone. We may have just gained a new member to our community who's as engaging as our regulars and increases site traffic.

I know some of the explanation sounds mercenary, but it's the reality of the situation.

One of my goals as mod is to help enlarge our community. It's hard to do at times when my frustration of constantly having to delete contact info when the rules are right there to see. I try not to let that frustration get to me and offer to help the person, either by posting pics for him or her, guiding them along the process of being a new member here, but when I sit down at the computer and have to go through five ads before I can look at the rest of the site... I simply have to walk away for a little while before I can sit down and actually enjoy my E-body peers' posts.
