I have a 440 sixpack with a mild cam,40 over. Can someone please advise the correct timing .And why the timing is changing with the slightest pressure on the throttle. Could this be caused by weak or damaged springs in the distributor?

Correct timing should be 14-16* advance at idle 34-36* total
yes weaks spring can cause the timing to change off idle

Hard to know what you mean by "slightest pressure on the throttle" but as designed (with distributor advance mechanism connected to ported vacuum) there should be zero vacuum advance at idle. As soon as throttle blades begin to open, the ported vacuum connection will start to see manifold vacuum from below the throttle blades and this will engage the vacuum advance and change (advance) the timing.

weak springs will allow the weights to open thus advancing timing that is how it;s supposed to work what is your idle rpm ? as a test to see when the weights start to open you can lower the idle as far as you can go if the timing retarts the weights are opening at idle the springs are to weak

I've seen recommendations for full centrifugal advance coming in at 2,000 to 2,500 rpm; however, your setup is consistent with Chrysler's own super tuning recommendations from 1969, all in (34 to 38 degrees) by 1,200 to 1,500 rpm.

See Master Technicians Service Conference Reference Book 69-12 from December of 1969, "Performance is the Name of the Game".

Browse MTSC by Model Year – 1969 – MyMopar

Buy another set of springs and play with it and see what you like.
