Hey everyone Im looking for a good place to get some tools. I wanted to know if there are any good places on the net to buy from.

I was just looking at Harbor Freight USA and they have a mig welder that runs off of house current for $89.99 but that is in store price. The store is about half hour or so away from me.

I sold a mig welder a few years ago that I bought brand new and never got to use. I thought I would sell it to someone who needed and would use it until I could get back on my project.

My dad had a big welder that he used at his shop and when he did a lot of frame work. This was a big gas tang welder and its not something I would need.

Im really looking for a good deal right on a mig welder. I want one that will run off of house current. I know I can rent a welder and be done with it but I do have another project that I want to do later on.

My dads tools have been used for twenty plus years and some will need to be replaced but most if not all are still good and like new.

I would like to find a good place online that has good prices and good tools. I really need a welder right now or by spring.

Where in Va. are ya?

Local pawn shop has crazy deals. Brand new, Sears has a great selection on the basics and torque wrenchs as well as some off beat wrenchs and stuff.

Bigger stuff like a welder or sand blast cabinet or a parts washer can be had by harbor freight or Summit/Jegs.

I got my Century welder through Tractor Supply. If you have one near you, or a Fleet Farm, or a farm supply store, the prices can be reasonable. They know the farming lifestyle, even for a box store and work to keep prices low. My Century, and the one before it, has done a lot of welding, both with the gas and with flux core. 115 volt, 95 and 105 amp settings, with "infinite" adjustments on wire speed and heat. Little more than what Harbor Freight is quoting you, but I'd swear by mine on a recommendation. And it's small, fairly light and can be moved easily off the cart to other locations.
As far as other tools go...I've worked body and wrench all my adult life. I could less about brand at this stage in my career, just as long as it has a good price and an easy, no-hassle lifetime warranty.

Sears is listing some welders online which can be shipped to your door, but they are above your Harbor Freight quote substantially. What's a good price?

hey guys thanks for the info I did call around and do some search on the net. My dad talked to a guy yesterday that has a Miller (dont remember specs) that was 600 and something with cart and a bunch of other things. My dad said he would talk to the other guy that he delt with all the time when he had his shop and get a better deal.

I do see the other places that you guys listed as having some good deals I would like to have it set up to take gass if I chose to do it later on.

Im trying to sell some dog dish caps and if I get them sold I will have a little more to go with.

Yeah I like sears tools my dad has used the warranty a lot and they never questioned what happend to the tool.

Hi guys ,
i have a 1974 challenger with a 318 ,im installing a 440 with a 727 trans,and im being told different storys about the engine crossmember,those who sell parts say i absolutly need to change it plus the torshion bars and the tabs,,one who is a mopar guy tells me i do not need to change nothing but to install a engine mount adaptor,,,

my car is still on the rotiseroire (BBQ) so i havent tried anything yet ,,can someone help me


my own opinion is i think i will have to get the new stuff but if i can save some cash?

What's an engine mount adapter? The engine mounts via, well, engine mounts. Schumacher has the engine mounts you need that will bolt the big block to the small block K-frame. They're listed at $144 + $15 for s/h

as for the torsion bars: put the big block bars in it. The bigger bars are there for a reason: to handle the extra weight of the big block sitting on the nose of the car. I've seen guys put big blocks on the small t-bars and watched the nose hit the ground.

Most migs, unless they're real cheapies, usually come with the gauges and the hose you'll need for gas. Going flux core is just a matter of turning off the gas and changing to the bigger tips and feeder wheels (on some). One of the reasons I keep both types of wire on hand is I never know when I might have to take the mig someplace out in the great wide open where the wind might blow the gas away... (like welding the exhaust on my brother-in-law's Dak in his driveway because it was a ticket waiting to happen).

Nice price on the Miller, by the way. Hope you can pull it off.

Hey thanks Im still waiting to see what I can come up with and the Miller is a great price. I just have to come up with the money to do it right now.

I heard Hobart is made by Miller.

Im still looking and saving and selling off a few things I have that I dont need.

Welded everything from thin gauge hand formed panels and complete welding of everything imaginable for restorations. Put the flux core in for frame work on full frame/GM subframe cars. This newest one hasn't done as much work, but I went back to Century because of the durability I got for the price on the first one. And it meets my needs of 115v. Like I said, I've done a lot of outside welding, with both of them, and being able to run a heavy extension cord no matter where I'm at, my house, sister's house, buddy's house, beats trying to lug around a large 230v and trying to make sure I have an extension cord for each dryer outlet :D

I will have to look into one. I did go to tractor supply web site and didnt see one or I may have just over looked the page. I know a lot of times the in store stuff will be differnt.

Im going to check more into after the first of the year (Tomorrow) and see what I come up with.

I just missed out on a Hobart 140 for 300 bucks. The guy said it was new.

My dad called the guy back on the Miller and I think without the car it can be had for around 4-500. He is asking my dad to come take a look at it.

Someone ordered it right before Christmas and didnt come back for it so its extra inventory.

Im not sure if the shop is open tomorrow as its a local store that sells to body shops and bigger factories.

Im in no rush really as it will be spring before I can do any work on the R/T but if the miller can be had at that price it might be worth getting now or keeping my eye open till I find a good deal.

I also was told that the cross member I need I can only get in full length not the half section I thought I need.

I cant find much on it on the net yet. Im trying to find reviews and will go to youtube as well to see what I find on it.

I called the tractor supply place today as well as the other outlets. The girl at the tractor place said they only had two brands the Campbell and Hobart.

The Campbell is 199 and that helps my wallet but wont help me weld if its a piece of junk.

Thanks all and Im still looking and learning on what I need and will buy. The Miller welder Im still holding on to but they are only open on week days.

Just from looking at it I'm not a big fan of it. No gas. You can weld small steel with flux, I've done a lot of it, but it takes some getting used to and some practice. Looks like you only have "clicker" movement for heat seating, which makes it harder to weld smaller stuff with flux. Looks like the wire feed might also be clicker setting and I like to be able to set my wire and heat where I want it. If it's between the numbers for the best weld, then it's between the numbers.
