Good morning,
I am getting ready to start selecting the proper 26-Spline Torque Convertor.

Engine: 1973 340LA
CAM: Xtreme Energy Retro-Fit XR268HR-10 Hydraulic Roller Camshaft
Lift .531"/.531"
Duration 268/276
Lobe Separation Angle: 110°
RPM Range 1400-5500
Transmission: A904 3-Speed Auto
Rear End: 8 3/4-3:23 ratio
Tires 17x8 and 17x9

Thinking a 2200-2500 stall

Thoughts and product recommendations?

Thanks in advance

5500 rpm seems a bit short for a 340, mine peaked on the Dino at 6500 🧐

Often you can call the torque converter manufacturer and give them your specs for your cam and the rest of your engine build and they’ll suggest a matching converter for you. Hughes for example.

When they were new Mopar advertised them a turning
6000 RPM from the factory.

A stock 340 Converter should stall 2200 with you HP level.
They are a dime a dozen and would work fine.

Make sure it is a 10 3/4 diameter.

The stall speed of a torque convertor is proportional to the square root of the engine torque times the kvalue. Factory 340 stall speed was 2150 to 2450. Like GTX John mention, you're engine will be making more torque than stock so a stock 340 torque convertor (same as slant-6 and 383 HP) will work fine! Even the 426 hemi used the basic same torque convertor but with 7/16" bolts instead of 3/8" bolts.

The Hemi did have the same basic convertor but a slightly different turbine
configuration and hat. As I recall the Hemi has a small flat area on the middle of the
hat while the others were smooth and rounded. The Hemi put into a 340 stalled
a bit lower maybe 150/200 RPMs than the production 340 style.

I be that there are not many guys who remember this, are still alive anymore!

Pick one or several different convertor companies and give them a call and go by their recommendations or best cost. You will get a thousand different answers on the internet. I personally have great results with PTC. I now have 4 of their converters in my street and street/race cars.
