i’m currently cleaning up the whole dash for re install soon . i have 2 questions , i appreciate help with one or both . question 1- the instrument light at the switch area , i’m told is in the dash light panel above the empty hole to the left side , i have an empty hole but no socket / bulb . i removed and disassembled the dash it appeared stock , but i never saw or found this item . pics or info would help! where does this plug into ? can i buy one aftermarket? question 2- in my non rally dash i have an available location all the way to right side , i see amd offers a tach that mounts into the dash . my question is is the tach decent ? has anyone tried this tach and location? T.I.A

I bought one of the tachometers you are talking about but don't remember who I got it off.
Fits in where there is a blank or an optional clock.
The needle on my one is the fatter style that matches a Barracuda or the 1971 on Challenger.
Fitted well and works good.

I don't know for sure about factory wires but I don't think so. In any case mine was an electronic tach that often does not work if you connect them to existing points/coil wiring - but some do work.
I have an MSD box so I went to the tach terminal on the 6AL.

Yeah that wasn't me that left the feedback. I was really happy with the look and ease of installation.
They complete the dash and fill the blank spot.
They are manufactured by a company again that I cannot recall the name, and sold by Classic and other parts vendors.
Yes they are worth buying. I know what you mean it is nice they mount in to the dash.

Here's the light I think you are talking about that illuminates the wiper switch panel. This is the non-ralley instrument cluster on my 72 Challenger.

That bulb and holder is part of the optional A01 light group. My car has that. The light comes on when you open the doors and goes off with a timer after about 20 seconds.
The other bulb holder he could be talking about illuminates the heater controls. I think all Challengers have this one.

As said, it's part of the A01 Light Package. Make sure your car has the wiring & time delay relay to make it work properly.

interesting info , i do have the floodlight but none of the other A01 package . looking at my dash lighting panel it doesn’t appear that a screw was ever inserted there ! odd …. i would imagine the switch panel illumination would be standard equipment,

The photos in my post above of the socket on light bar and the bulb/wire are on my 72 Challenger but the fender tag does not have the A01 light group on the fender tag. It may have been standard on the 72 E-bodies but not on the 70/71 E-bodies. I don't know.

What car/year are you working on?
I went by the AAR in your profile picture but that switch panel isn't a 1970.

Complete information is always critical. A Factory Service Manual is your best friend. It has diagrams and info on most any system in your car. If you don't have one yet, that should be your next purchase or download.

The info I have assumed is you either ordered the A01 Light Group and all it's associated parts or you got none of it.
But the trunk light L25 and the other lamps all appear to have been able to be ordered on their own as they have their own L codes.
If your car has got none of the other parts of A01 it is unlikely to be factory and maybe someone in the past has added parts to the car.
Or the individual lamps were ordered when the car was new. That info may only be on the broadcast sheet.

An A01 group car should also have the headlight on buzzer. This was part of the group from what I know.

In terms of "original" E-bodies, the tachometer wire was only added to rallye dash instrument models. It will NOT typically be present on cars shipped with standard dashes (lacking a tach). It's a GRAY wire with white stripe, terminal #20 on the bulkhead connector, that feeds the OEM tachometer from the ignition coil to the tachometer instrument gauge.

If memory serves (and it has been slacking, lately) the gray wire is separate and visible wire outside the engine compartment wiring harness. Similar to the green Cuda-only headlamp wiring. An add-on wire.
