Hello, I'm glad to be here. From Wisconsin and have own my 1970 Challenger for about 35 years. Looking for some help on how to get info from the vin#. Problem is hit dead ends every where I ask. Tried Dodge motor company, they couldn't find anything, told me to go through local dealership, Nope! Any body else run into this issue with a 13 digit vin#?

Welcome to FEBO
oldschoolgirl;
your 13 digit Challenger VIN should be comprised of:

- JH or JS (J=Challenger- H or S =price class)
- 23 or 27 = (hardtop or convertible,)
- G, H, N, U, V. = (engine size in order 318-340-383-440-440-6.)
- L code = 383 big block 2 barrel carb
- 6th digit would be production year 0=1970
- 7th digit would be B or E = (factory build Hamtramck or LA.)
- Finally the last six numbers = Sequence Number (serial #)

Example; JH23 G0B 111222 would = Challenger high class, hardtop with 318 engine, 1970 year, built in Hamtramck, Michigan with a serial number of 111222

What does yours read?

Sorry that doesn't work, already tried it. My vin only has 13 digits, none of these sites recognize that. But thanks anyway.
That's weird. My VIN has 13 characters and it worked just fine after typing it in the black "tag" and hitting Decode.

Everything is perfect, except my vin has an "L" for my 383 290 HP 2 BBL 8 CYL.
I would like to know the name for the color E5 paint code. Is it just called "red" or " bright red" ?

Red was known as Rallye Red code FE5. The F in the paint code designates the year the paint color was first used (1970) and paint color E5

That PPG chart is close but not 100%. For example my 1970 Barracuda is EW1, the chart calls it white Plymouth calls it Alpine White and Dodge calls their Challengers Spinnaker

I believe that's for Plymouth (see chart below), the OP has a '70 Challenger so Bright Red would be accurate, I think (I'm a Plymouth guy).

Welcome to FEBO from the desert! Post some pictures of your 70 Challenger! The 383 2-bbl is great because you can swap on a four barrel intake and 4 bbl carb real easy and with the low compression, you can run 87 octane gasoline! No need for premium! Rallye Red is a high impact color which is cool! Post a picture of the fender tag if you got it!
