    Cam Walked, whats the damage?

Hate to admit it but i did not ream the bushing! Hard lesson learned if that did it. At the least, i will go back with the AR cover and properly fit the bushing. I took my B block to the machine shop today and we will start planning the build later this week after it’s cleaned and checked...

    Cam Walked, whats the damage?

mancini, either way i think they source the same supplier. Anyway, cam is pushed forward and seized and i cannot turn the crank either. Depressing since i was bringing it home from the paint shop. It was a motorhome 440, cast crank and rods with icon pistons. I loaded up my 400 B block on the...

    Cam Walked, whats the damage?

lol, I will show you! Just got the timing cover off. Two piece button w bearing, under acceleration I think distributor gear pushed the cam forward, deceleration cam moved back and button fell off. That’s what I see anyway. Factory timing cover so that’s the weak link I think.

    Cam Walked, whats the damage?

440, hyd roller, double row timing gear, Trick Flow Cam, Distributor has bronze gear, I installed a cam button w .005 clearance or very close to that. There is now an outward impression on the Timing cover. openening things up further today. There is carnage somewhere, while running it started...

    Balancing drivetrain

All is good, talked to Hughes and the shop that did my shortblock. balance is good, i have the trick flow .600 lift cam, kind of a thumper at idle. The vibration smooths out with acceleration, if it was an actual imbalance or mismatch of balancer, flexplate etc, it would try to come out of the...

    Balancing drivetrain

Here we go! 78 motorhome 440, external balance. rebuilt the motor, some goodies in it etc etc. New BM flexplate 237, the one with crescent notch. and a New Hughes 24-30 stall convertor. Engine has a large vibration first startup and a little tuning, literally too much vibration to adjust idle...

    Engine/trans install

Well....from the bottom it shall be! Picked up my short block yesterday and the machine shop owner (e-body guru) says its way easier from underneath. He also said installing the cam bearings are worse than installing headers, glad he did that and not me! Thanks everybody for the headsup on...
