I'll be out of town until Mon. When I get back:
Should I be checking all the pins on the other end of the ign. switch for continuity then?
If so, besides the switch pins, where should I connect the other meter probe to?
If so, with ign. on or off? (I presume off)
Same questions while testing...
Thanks for the reminder! After rechecking in the ACC position in the counterclockwise position, I DO have continuity between BLK and RED wires.
I think this ign. switch test now eliminates a bad switch.
Looks like my next step is I'm going to have to start unwrapping some electrical tape like...
Thats a nice easy to read chart! That should be posted somewhere where everyone can see it.
My readings are all correct w/ the exception of ACC chart reading.
I have no continuity w/ any of the other colors.
Chart says there should be w/ ACC (BLK)
Any ideas on what this would suggest? Thanks!!
I performed a continuity check on my ignition sw. from the red (batt) to the other 4 wire pins, yellow (start), blk (acc.), dk blu (ign. 1), and brn (ign. 2)
Ign. 1= No continuity w/ any other colors
Ign. 2= Continuity with blk and dk. blue only
Start, while in crank position= Continuity with...
Thought I would eliminate the ign. sw. like you mentioned. Could you tell me the step-by-step hotwiring process of checking it after unplugging the plug. Thanks!
I have not had a chance to start unwrapping tape under the dash yet.
In my service manual, I see that bulkhead #9 is classified as START "S2-18YL" at ign. switch on dash wiring side. (Maybe that wire could be fused together under electrical tape?)
On engine side it goes to the starter relay.
Is...
I see from my wiring diagram that the brown wire J3-14BN on engine side goes to ign. ballast, then goes to the + side of ign. coil
On dash side it goes to large 8way clear plug under column to ign. #2 (the plug looks healthy, no burn marks)
I'm guessing I will have to unwrap about 12" to...
I have a home AC service man at my house now.
Like I said though, the fuse never blows from just turning ign. switch to the on position. Only blows while cranking the motor over.
So, I'm not for sure I understand what good it would do by unplugging the other 2 bulkhead connectors and just...
The fuse does NOT blow when I turn on the ign. switch itself.
It seems to blow only while turning the motor over.
2 months ago, I made about 4 separate trips before it blew that fuse
Do you still want me to unplug the other 2 bulkhead connections beings that the fuse does not pop when ign...
Test light comes ON when attached to Alt. stud (what does this suggest)?
Test light comes ON when attached to Batt on fuse box (what does this suggest)?
Test light does NOT come on when attached to ACC on fuse box (what does this suggest)?
Last month I posted that I was having ongoing issues w/ my 73 Challenger 30 AMP inline fuse that keeps popping after start up.
Well, I just replaced the engine wire harness w/ a new correct one since the old one was modified to fit my big block vs. original small block. I was hoping that was my...
Thanks for the good feedback. Sound like a circuit breaker is superior to a fusible link. Check out what EW1BH27 found out about slow blow fuses. That also sounds like a great option. Your thoughts?? Thanks!
That is very interesting and good info. That might explain why my 30-amp inline fuse just recently popped right after starting my motor. Would you have a recommendation on what amperage that would be acceptable for my car for one of these "slow blow" fusses?
I didn't realize the advantage of the fusible link vs the inline fuse. I think I'm going to put a fusible link back in. What gauge of wire do they recommend for 73 e-bodies for a replacement fusible link, 14 or 16? I would think 14. Also, would you recommend a circuit breaker over a fusible link...
I will take the foot switch off and inspect it. The last time I used it was a couple yrs. ago, but that's when I started having electrical issues, so who knows. Is this a very common problem? I'm also going to take the steering wheel off and check for any grounded-out ign. switch wires
