I'm not seeing the small nylon washer (sometimes a cork gasket) in your pics. That could be your problem.

Yes, the springs I have work perfectly and hold the hood up without having to use anything like a pole.

I have the same hood -- likely from the same company. Stinger Fiberglass? As stated above, sounds like you need to take some more time getting it adjusted properly. If you can post some pictures, that would help us lead you in the right direction. I will say, I got my springs from Glasstek...
