Had a small leak in my original adapter (Pic 2) So decided to buy a new one. Put new one on, and had a gusher of oil everywhere when started. What did I do wrong? Everything was tight.

I ended up using Permatex black RTV. I do recall at one time pining the center of the plate. with the standard filter.
Only in a perfect world. I too had a problem when I was priming the motor. After a day of attempt after attempt I go it fixed. AND I ask myself. Self, How does something so simple take so long. Just spin a filter on!

For the pipe fitting on the adaptor, use the white plumber's putty (Loctite 567). Also, oil on the rubber gasket.

The oil filter adapter on a 318 is different from the one you are showing. Can I use that kind of an adapter on a 318? If so who has an original for sale??

The adapter Righty Tighty showed is the 90° adapter and, yes, it will work in your 318. Finding one is the hard part and usually the going price is $125+. I just searched eBay and there are a few listed between $123+shipping and $199 free shipping.
Have you tried the permatex on the gasket and plumper pipe sealant on the metal fitting?

Thanks for the ebay info. Have tried anything yet. Afraid of losing more royal purple. That stuff is expensive lol

My mistake! I was all caught up in looking at the gaskets and missed that it's not a 90 degree. And yes, you can absolutely use a 90* on a 318. You might want to head over to FABO -- there's much more traffic there and those adapters pop up frequently. The last few I sold were $60-80 depending on condition.

I'll go tuck myself away in the bushes now.

Another tip is to grind the tip of the socket you use to tighten the bolt this gets rid of the chamfer and gives you more contact so it won't slip and round off the bolt as the hex on the bolt is very narrow.

Grounded down a 1 inch socket, so it gets a good grip. Will this permatex work on the gasket??

I believe that is good for 400 or 500 degrees F. Check the drying time. I would have to say yes. The black Permatex I used had a moderate heat rating.300 -400 F. Some sealers I use have a time where you apply it and let it set for a short time. Then tighten or assemble. Check instructions.

It is rated 700 degrees. Hope this works until I get a 90 degree oil filter adapter.
