Here is a very clean and solid 1970 Challenger convertible for sale. Until early September 2018, the car spent its entire life in Alabama and North Carolina. The body has had a few small patch panels welded in the lower quarter panels during the repaint in 2012. The paint is still in nice shape, but has some solvent pop in a few areas and a few scratches and scrapes down low. The interior floors are in near perfect condition, along with all four of the framerails and the torsion bar crossmember. The trunk floor has some pitting and minor pinholes, with one very small patch, otherwise it is nice and solid as well. Obviously, the original flat hood has been swapped out for the cool dual scoop power bulge hood. The engine compartment paint is the same stuff that was applied at the assembly plant in 1970. There is very minor rust in the cowl by the master cylinder (mouse nest) and a small spot by the left hood hinge. The passenger side is rust free. Just a clean Challenger convertible and not an AMD special.
All of the unique convertible parts are present. The power top works as it should going up and down. The top material was replaced several years ago but it does have a split in the seam that could perhaps be repaired.
The interior presents nicely with a few small issues. The left seat back has a slight lean from being pushed back against for "belly to steering wheel" clearance. The dashpad has been covered with a dashcap from Accuform, it actually doesn't look bad installed. The seat covers are all in decent to good shape.
The 318 rebuilt years ago and it starts right up, makes no noise and does not smoke or leak. There is an aftermarket four barrel aluminum intake and Carter AFB carburetor. The transmission shifts nicely. The rear axle is coded for a 3.23 gear in the 8 3/4 housing. The front suspension should be rebuilt as I don't think it has ever been touched. There are aftermarket front and rear swaybars that were installed years ago. The brakes stop well.
It came equipped with the following options: FK5 Burnt Orange metallic paint, black vinyl bucket seat interior. power steering, console automatic, AM radio, power convertible top, 3.23 sure grip (not sure whats in it now), fliptop gas cap and body side moldings. The original fender tag and Broadcast Sheet are present.
This is not the typical pieced together POS that most '70-1 E body ragtops are that come up for sale. It is not easy to find one that was welded together on the factory jigs, still retaining the factory installed quarter panels and floor pans and not in someones backyard shop using Chinese metal and 30lbs of welding wire. Just a good, clean 1970 Challenger convertible that you can jump in and enjoy right away and make some improvements to over time.
