Never really thought about it until i went to put a 26 coolmaster in 22 inch car
After measuring my original 340 A66 with a 26" radiadiator found the actual core is only about 25 & a bit & the hole is 26 1/2 so you have about 1 inch of mounting bracket showing in the hole
On the coolmaster the outside of the fins is about 24 inch so once mounted in the 22 1/2 inch hole only lose i only lose 3/4 " each side but with the 1/4 plates even that is in the air stream
