Hi E-body fans! Not my first post here, but I guess my info got deleted and I had to rejoin. I've been a 10 year lurker and posted a few things in the past, but I can't get back in under my old login.....Anyways, this site is a great bunch folks and always enjoy the stories and information.

I'm trying to figure out my block and head numbers...just to see what they are.

The block was fairly easy with a f.w.340.3034.0295 stamped on the front.......but the heads I can't figure out and maybe my eyes are starting to go a little??? : )

34875???? Any ideas? And thanks in advance!!!

Kevin

That’s not the casting number on the head. When you see what’s indicative of a tag with the screw head on either end that’s the date code. That said that’s one funky date code, the likes I’ve not seen before. There should be another 7 digit number that should end in something like 915.

Never saw 34875???? on a small block head before?

Check out this information on 340 heads:
1968-1969-(first half) 1970 model year 340s used "X" heads cast # 2531894 with 2.02"/1.60" valves (cast #2531894/part #2531902)

(second half) 1970-1972 model year 340s used "J", "O", "U", "Z" heads cast # 3418915with 2.02"/1.60" valves (at some point & on 360s with 1.88"/1.60" valves) (cast #3418915/part #3577053)

340+6 T/A heads are "J", "O", "U", "Z" heads cast # 3418915 with offset intake pushrod holes and 2.02"/1.60" valves

1973 model year 340s used heads cast # 3671587 with 1.88"/1.60" valves (also used on 360s)

Oh yes welcome back
I would be very careful cleaning those heads up they appear to be open slots where the pushrods are like a TA /AAR head there is something written horizontally above the block number looks like 1072
Also there is writing vertical around the middle looks to contains a few letters with KB in it
Wire brushing may destroy the writing.

Lots of good info. My (one-owner) '70 Swinger with 'numbers-matching' everything has the '-915's with date-codes of 12-10-9 and 12-11-9- ,plus, 360 clearly cast into each one - - as do my 1973 (Challenger) -587's also with cast-in 360. The earlier -894's of course won't have '360' on them.

I think I see what you are referring to. I never noticed this before. It's faint, but something is placed in this location.

Hi. Note the 360 casting. I would suggest casting date of Feb.01, '71? Could you read off the other long casting no. and type it in posting? Hard to see in photo. Very sloppy casting.- - -915?

Thx for the help with this (thanks all really!). I assume I basically have a standard 1970-72, 915J head with 1.88 intake since I do not have offset rocker arms (see overview pic above).

I found this video helpful along the way to determine they are definitely not TA/AAR/6 pack heads (starting around the 3 minute mark).

More likely you have the 915 heads with 2.02 valves it wasn't until later they went to 1.88 in those heads , you do not need the offset TA rockers to have the 2.02 valves .

The J head started in 1971 with 2.02 intake valves. 1972 had 1.88 intake valves. Kim
