What are you talking about? Is the linkage installed incorrectly? How about some details like what fourspeed model, shifter brand/model ? Is transmission disassembled and you are trying to put it back together ? Good to have a manual in front of you if you like to do your own work.

When you are going thru the gears driving 3rd gear is lower right and 4th gear is upper right

Its been shifting that way for six years. The first five years The var was being restored.the previous owner put all his effort in the engine.I have redone the body and interior. Its a 71 challenger 440 mildly built.

If its an overdrive, the 3/4 lever might be upside down. Flip it over (you might have to bend your shift rod a little) then check how it shifts.

I agree , the OD trans uses 3rd for OD so if the shift lever is pointed up it will shaift backwards as yours is , point the front lever down & adjust the shiftrod so it doesn't bind & this will reverse the positions of 3 & 4th gear

Thanks for the tip guys . Next week larger torsion bars are going to be installed. Thats why I brought this up while we have it up on the rack we will work on the trans. I had a gut feeling it was something like a rod being wrong. I wanted to here it from someone else.
