hi its my understanding that in order to buy a 383 magnum with a 4 speed you had to buy the r/t package. so the guy that ordered my car ordered it as a r/t then the dealer had the factory delete the stripe and the r/t hood. this car has the original paint original hood doors trunk never been apart as far as we can see. original motor and trans all match. even the factory holley is on it. well hope this helps

I have a n code challenger also a71 model. I have seen where only 107 were built like mine with a 4 spd . The 383 is long gone. Now a 440 sits there. Were they called a r/t delete back when they were built? Mine is a late built one in April 71. With no ac manual brakes and steeting
The 383 4 bbl. was just an optional motor that could be ordered. The 4 speed was also an option. It is just that simple. I have a 70 N code 4 speed car here. They were sleepers. They also were less on insurance costs. They were not too popular.

well good to know this. why would some one do a r/t delete if you did not need the package. my car is the h code . and another thing with gm either you have a 2 door post car that would be a sedan or a coupe. with the challenger they only made 2 door cars and convertibles so why would you call it a hard top or coupe ?? did they make different roofs . this is my first real mopar

All the Challenger roofs were the same. There were a small amount of Challengers made with the quarter windows fixed. They could not be rolled up or down. This is on the low line Challengers. Originally these Challengers were supposed to be JL cars. It was changed for an unknown reason to JH21. Most, but not all, of the fixed window cars were part of the Deputy or the Western Sport packages. These packages were offered by Dodge as a 'cheap' way for someone to buy a Challenger. They were price cut specials.

wow good to talk to people that know these cars.my first car was a 1966 Plymouth valiant 2 door 225 slant six. i built the car 12. 1 compression 488 rear 4 barrel carb got it to go low fourteens in the quarter mile made a lot of noise. well back to the challenger hope to find the sheet metal i need at Carlisle. and see what the nos parts really go for. i have been watching a grill on eBay he wants 3000 for a piece of plastic maybe its just me but do people really think they can get this much for nos parts. i would think that the cars have come down so much that the parts would have come down . i was offerd this week a 1970 real hemi cuda with paper work all original parked in 1978 not running but all there for 65,000 thanks challenger6pak for the reply's

Most any NOS and maybe all will stay that high in price. You have to remember they are made off the factory tooling and are the read deal to were reproduction parts (Even AMD) are using panels to get their molds so they will be as close to the originals as they can be.

What is the part you need in the grill? Can yours be fixed or maybe look for a good used one and restore it.

As far as buying sheetmetal at Carlisle make sure you look at prices with shipping before you go, carlisle will be high on parts always have been. You may find your NOS stuff there about the same price as online but reproduction sheetmetal I say stay home and order it.

I think that Hemi cuda is still a little high but thats just me, if running and needing nothing its a good deal and in the ball park.

Keep us posted on the trip and if you have a few days to stay Sunday is always the best day to buy no one wants to take it back home if they still have it.

Mike, you are welcome. If the Cuda is solid and has the paperwork (which is a big deal) It is worth the $65,000. Original cars with the original paperwork are very hard to find. The Hemi Cuda is one of the most valuable examples of the American muscle car.

The 66 sounds like it was a neat car.
