first look at a 2 piece 727 sfi case

I am literally on the verge of building a TH400. Not because my 727 cant handle 2k hp but because there is no aftermarket case for it AND no one makes a torque converter that can handle the power, but that might change as well. I am in the worls on that one right now with Dice performance.

Could I ask who's 727 can handle 2K HP ? All the g'box builders I spoke to told me 1000lb/ft (1200 ish H/P) was about the limit for an all out 727.
We'll be around 1700hp with N2O so this would be a better option cost wise than going to an aftermarket case or th400 type.
EDIT: A bit more searching shows there are folk running a stock case 727 with over 1500hp BUT they are few and far between.

John, thank you bringing these bell housing/cases to our attention. Like you said, they look extremely beefy! I will be following to see how everything fits up internally.

Tig and Wingcarenvy, correct me if I'm wrong, but don't most catastrophic stock 727 cases fell due to lack of rigidity bell housing to case transition area? These new cases may be able to handle the additional stress behind a 1700-2000hp engine. Would definitely need a stout aftermarket torque converter!

For crazy guys like me who want to put a 518 transmission behind a sub 1000hp 440 or 500 stroker, this could be just the ticket!!

Catastrophic failure of the front drum is the worst, the std sintered drum can literally explode if the sprag fails and pieces can find they way through the car body. As John Cope said he doesn't think that case would contain such a failure but if you into an aftermarket case you WILL be fitting an aftermarket steel or billet front drum.
Another issue is getting the car tagged to sub 10.00. You need a trans shield which you just can't get anymore. You can fit a trans blanket (are bulky and foul the shifter mechanism) and flex plate shield but they are difficult to get the bell housing/block bolts in once in place, unless you drill holes in the bulkhead which brings up another tagging issue. Again john mentioned this.
Also 727 have a rep for having a small bell housing which means a smaller TC, IIRC john hinted that the bell housing is bigger than std.
So overall it's stronger and address / limits some of the known issues with a stock 727. I'll be keeping an eye on it all but I'm still thinking about an aftermarket th400 type. It will likely be a while before I need to change anyway.

Thanks Tig. I think a lot of us are going to at least keep an eye on these housings.
Indeed, there's a certain amount of kudos keeping stuff "All Mopar" but it's getting more difficult

My 727 has an SFI bell, shield and flex plate. Has all the billet internals 300M shafts etc and is built to hold 1500 h.p. and I exceed that on spray. I haven't broken anything yet with 5-6 years of passes and thousands of street miles.
